NCC project to be extended

Kakinada: A pilot project for improving the literacy of girls, which is currently under implementation by the National Cadet Corps (NCC) in Chattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, is poised to be extended to other States soon.

The project was launched 10 months ago in collaboration with the UNICEF as part of the NCC’s social responsibility activities. NCC was actively extending various other services throughout the country and the response had been truly rewarding, said Director-General of NCC Prakash S Chaudhary.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Lt. Gen. Chaudhary said the NCC had a rich track record of serving the needy during natural calamities and other contingencies. Up to 500 NCC cadets were rendering valuable services in the flood-hit areas of Bihar. Blood donation had been another major activity. NCC cadets were also spreading awareness about female foeticide, communal harmony and other issues of relevance.
