3 held for stealing chemicals

CHENNAI: The Nandambakkam police, on Sunday, arrested three men on charges of stealing 100 kg of ethyl vanillin, a chemical used in perfumes. They recovered the chemical which was worth about Rs.1 lakh.Police named the accused as Muthengarayan (24) of Kundrathur, Ilango (35) and Karunakaran (28), both of St Thomas Mount.

The arrest followed a police complaint by a representative of perfume manufacturer, International Flower and Fragrance India Ltd. on Butt Road, regarding the theft of ethyl vanillin from the office on Friday. The police found that Muthengarayan, a security officer and Ilango, a part-time employee in the company, along with Karunakaran, a relative of latter, had stolen the chemical . The three men were remanded to custody.
