Battle of brains to begin

CHENNAI: The ninth edition of the The Hindu-Young World Quiz (2008) will witness schools from 13 cities battling for top honours beginning October 15. The inter-school, inter-city quiz has become the best known live-quizzing event in the country.

Since 2000, when the quiz was started to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Young World supplement, the quiz has been conducted every year drawing tens of thousands of children.

Students from VI to IX can participate at the regional events conducted all over the country. Each school can send a maximum of three teams, each of two members. Regional winners will compete at a Grand All India Final where the winners will be showered with loads of prizes.

Regional round will be conducted at Chennai (October 15), Puducherry (October 17), Madurai (October 18), Coimbatore (October 19), Tiruchi (October 20), Thiruvananthapuram (October 31), Kochi (November 1), Kozhikode (November 3), Mangalore (November 4), Bangalore (November 6), Hyderabad (November 10), Vijayawada (November 11) and Vishakapatnam (November 13).

On November 13, the All India Finals will be conducted in Vishakapatnam. Once again, the quiz master for this year is V.V.Ramanan.

The Chennai round will be conducted at Kamarajar Arangam, Teynampet, at 11 a.m. Nearly 250 schools are expected to participate. Director Gautham Vasudev Menon will be the Chief Guest and will give away the prizes.

Regional sponsors are Repute Water, ITC Classmates, Currimbhoys, Textile India, Mahavir Optics, Sri Krishna Sweets, Tara Talcum Powder, VGP Universal Kingdom and Landmark. The beverage sponsor is Dabur Real Fruit Juice. The event is managed by Quizwalahs.
