JAIPUR: Rajasthan is fast emerging a major centre for commodity trading with agricultural products from the State accounting for 20-25 per cent of the transactions in the NCDEX (National Commodities and Derivatives Exchange). There is already a network of the chain of participants—growers, processors, traders, and exporters/importers—in the trading with many cities and towns in the State including the capital, Bikaner, Kota and Jodhpur coming up as major centres. “Rajasthan is a major State for commodities trading. However, the investor needs further education in the business. We are now on an attempt to reach out to the physical traders in Rajasthan and the neighbouring Madhya Pradesh,” said R.Ramaseshan, managing director of NCDEX, while interacting with journalists here on Saturday. “In the run up for the next harvest season we will hold workshop in many centres in Rajasthan and in Guna in Madhya Pradesh,” he said. “We are trying to impress the stakeholders on the benefits of trading on its online features trading platform,” Mr.Ramaseshan said. The latest commodity the NCDEX is concentrating on in Rajasthan is coriander-- of the Badami whole dhaniya variety-- traded under the ticker symbol, ” DHANIYA”. NCDEX trades in a total of 56 commodities including 42 agricultural items. The trading is conducted on around 20,000 terminals across 700 centres with over Rs.3, 000 crores as an average volume of trade on a day.
