Boy killed in freak accident
Staff Reporter
CHENNAI: A 12-year-old boy was strangulated when he tried to reach out to attend a telephone call.
Police said that Praveen, a Standard VI student of Angel Matriculation School in Ashok Nagar, was at his house on Vivekananda Street, MGR Nagar with his mother.
He was playing with an elastic rope with two hooks on either ends around his neck, which he used to fasten his school bag to the bicycle.
An investigating officer said that the boy’s mother received a phone call and she had called Praveen to the next room to speak to someone over the phone.
When Praveen tried to rush to the next room, one of the hooks got caught in the corner of the bed next to him, tightening the rope around his neck.
Praveen’s mother rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was declared “brought dead.”
