Kozhikode: The differences in the Youth Congress State unit came to the fore on Sunday with 50 dissidents, led by State secretary Thiruvallur Murali, forming a rival body and naming it the ‘Rajiv Gandhi Youth Organisation’ here. The meeting, convened by the dissidents, also witnessed unruly scenes with supporters of State president T. Siddique, whose ‘unilateral’ style of functioning the former have taken objection to, clashing with the organisers of the meet. Later, the dissidents announced that they had formed the new organisation in the name of Rajiv Gandhi and that its units would soon be launched across the State. The Youth Congress on Saturday expelled its State general secretary K. Jaleel Mohammad, for going public against the reorganisation of the State unit. Mr. Jaleel had alleged that ‘quota system’ still prevailed in the State unit as deserving candidates were not included in the fresh list. — PTI
