Security check: A bomb squad of the police in action on the Kozhikode beach on Sunday, which is the venue of a public meeting to be addressed by BJP leader L.K. Advani on Tuesday. KOZHIKODE: Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the visit of the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, L.K. Advani, on October 14. The visit of Mr. Advani also marks the beginning of election preparations of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the next Lok Sabha elections slated for next year. Mr. Advani who is expected to arrive by a special helicopter at the Vikram Maidanam here at 10 a.m. will attend an award-distribution function at the Tagore Centenary Hall here at 11 a.m. He will be present the V.M. Korath Memorial Award instituted by Tapasya Kala-Sahitya Vedi to veteran journalist M.V. Kamath on the occasion. K. Madhavankutty, chairman of the organising committee and P. Balakrishnan, Tapasya State working president told reporters here on Sunday that the award distribution function would be presided over by P. Narayanakurup, State president of Tapasya. Poet Akkitham will light the lamp. P. Parameswaran, director, Bharatiya Vichara Kendram; O. Rajagopal, former Union Minister and others would speak on the occasion. All those who wish to attend the function have been requested to be at the venue by 10 a.m. Bags and mobile phones will not be allowed for security reasons, the organisers said. Party meetingMr. Advani would attend the meeting of the State office-bearers of his party to be held at Taj Residency here at 3 p.m. The BJP leader will address a public meeting of the party at the beach at 5 p.m. BJP State vice-president V. Muraleedharan told reporters here on Sunday that Mr. Advani would be addressing a large gathering in Kozhikode after a gap of 13 years. The organisers expected about 50,000 supporters at the meeting, he said. The public meeting was being organised as part of the ‘vijayasankalp yatra’ of party in the country. Two marches taken out by party workers would converge at the beach where the public meeting would be held. The first march would begin from Muthalakulam at 4 p.m. Workers from from Beypore, Kozhikode South, North, Kunnamangalam, Thiruvambadi, Koduvally and Balussery Assembly constituencies would take part in it. The second march will begin from Corporation stadium premises and would comprise workers from Elathur, Koyilandy, Perambra, Kuttiyadi, Vadakara and Nadapuram Assembly constituencies, Mr. Muraleedharan said. The public meeting would be presided over by Mr. Muraleedharan. BJP All-India assistant organising secretary V. Satish, BJP national secretary Balbir Punch, MP; and party State president P.K. Krishnadas and others would address the gathering. Mr. Advani would leave at 8 p.m.
