Backlog of LPG bookings high

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The backlog of bookings for LPG cylinders at many gas agencies of national oil marketing companies in the city is high as the time taken, beyond the mandatory three-week gap between two supplies, ranges from a week to ten days. Such a situation prevails at a time when LPG consumption by households soars on account of the seasonal changes and the festival season.

While the distributors complain of inadequate supplies from the companies and the intervening holidays, officials of Indian Oil Corporation and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd say their bottling plants were being operated even on Sundays to pump in more products. Under such circumstances, it is difficult to manage agitated customers, says a distributor in central Chennai.
