Diju and Jwala claim title

PUNE: V. Diju and Gutta Jwala won their second Grand Prix title in the European circuit, bagging the mixed doubles crown in the four-star KLRC Bulgarian Open badminton championship on Sunday.

Diju and Jwala defeated the fifth-seeded Indonesian pair of Fran Kurniawan and Shendy Puspa Irawati 15-21, 21-18, 21-19 in the final. The Indonesians are ranked 22nd in the world.

Jwala also teamed up with Shruti Kurien to reach the women’s doubles final.

The pair upset Russian top seeds Valeri Sorokina and Nina Vislova 15-21, 22-20, 21-15.
