Sunil and Jacqueline clinch titles

Bangalore: Sunil Verma and Jacqueline Kunnath emerged the boys and girls champions respectively in the Karnataka Badminton Association’s junior masters tournament which concluded at the KBA courts, here on Sunday.

Sunil, sprinkling his deceptive net play with strong half smashes, powered to a well-fought 22-20, 21-15 victory over Sonic Prabhu Desai, while Jacqueline humbled Uttara Prakash 21-18, 21-10 in a lopsided girls’ final.

Sunil also won a cash prize of Rs. 5,000, while Jacqueline took home a cheque of Rs. 3,000.

Prakash Padukone gave away the prizes.

The results: Boys: Singles: Final: Sunil Verma bt Sonic Prabhu Desai 22-20, 21-15. Semifinals: Sonic bt Prakash Jolly 19-21, 21-17, 21-14; Sunil bt Prateek 21-10, 22-24, 21-11.

Girls: Singles: Final: Jacqueline Kunnath bt Uttara Prakash 21-18, 21-10. Semifinals: Jacqueline bt Poorvisha Ram 21-10, 21-9; Uttara bt Anagha Unni 22-20, 21-19.
