Tirupur: The Textiles Committee, together with the Tirupur Industrial Federation (TIF), a consortium of textile associations, and the Bangalore-based Hydra Consulting Services, will come out with a ‘sub-contractor exchange solution,’ as part of cluster development activities. The e-solution, the first of its kind automation exercise in the textiles industry, will provide a hosted platform for buyers/importers to get know all details of manufacturers in the knitwear cluster of Tirupur and place their orders online. D. Dhandapani, deputy director, Textiles Committee, told The Hindu that the project was planned to help garment suppliers wriggle out of the precarious financial position they were in during the past few months owing to the ‘economic squeeze’ in markets across the world and the wide fluctuations in the rupee-dollar ratio. “The e-solution is unique in that it will not involve purchase or installation of any software by the users; rather it will be based on the ‘software as a service’ (SaaS) model backed by a 24x7 back office support centre,” he said. The textile producers here could host information about their capacity and production status to help the system keep track of an order. “The procedure will also provide an online real-time dashboard, containing the status of capacity utilisation by manufacturers. It will thus be helpful to the buyers to allocate orders effectively using sophisticated algorithms,” said G. Venugopal, cluster development executive, Textiles Committee. Once the system was commissioned, transparency and virtual integration of supply chain would improve significantly, raising the confidence of buyers in meeting schedules.
