College of fine arts sought

TIRUNELVELI: The Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers’ Forum has appealed to Tamil Nadu Government to establish a college of fine arts here which will immensely benefit students from southern districts.

The district-level 2-day conference of the forum said the Tirunelveli Corporation should take steps to remove the encroachments around the statue of national poet Subramania Bharathi in Tirunelveli Junction and rechristen the Vannarpet Saalai Street as ‘Puthumaipiththan Veethi’. The statue of freedom fighter Subramania Siva should be installed in the VOC Memorial at Exhibition Ground, the meeting said.
