Pranit wins junior billiards title

CHENNAI: Pranit J. Ramchandani of TNBSA triumphed in the junior billiards event in the TNBSA State-ranking billiards and snooker tournament, defeating club-mate S. Dilip Kumar 666-389 in the final contested in the two-hour format.

Pranit and Dilip, who also advanced to the junior snooker final, will represent the State in the all-India billiards and snooker championship to be held at Indore in November.

Double for Karthikeswaran

R. Karthikeswaran won the ‘best physique’ and ‘Mr. YMIA’ titles in the over-75kg category at a competition organised by the Young Men’s Indian Association here over the weekend.

The results:

Best Physique: 65kg: 1. R. Mahesh, 2. L. Lenin, 3. C. Sasikumar; 75kg: 1. V.J. Krishnamurthy, 2. T. Saravanan, 3. A. Senthilkumar; Over-75kg: 1. R. Karthikeswaran, 2. M. Abdullah, 3. R Suresh.

Adithyan hits century

M. Adithyan (122, 149b, 14x4, 1x6) shone on day one of the TNCA under-14 round-robin cricket final, helping City IV score 299 against City I.

The scores:

City IV 299 in 89.5 overs (M. Adithyan 122, L. Karthik 56, Rohan Srinath 25, R. Ashwin three for 33, V. Vignesh three for 26) vs. City I 32 for one in nine overs.

Chess championship

The Chennai District Chess Association will organise the State blitz chess championship on Sunday at the Hall of Chess, JN Stadium, at 2.30 p.m.

Players registered with the Tamil Nadu State Chess Association are eligible.

Entries, with a fee of Rs. 100, may be handed to Hall No.75, J.N. Stadium, Chennai-3, ph: 25384477 or 25366464.

Big win for United Gymkhana

United Gymkhana defeated Morning Star 7-1 in the CHA hockey league championship at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium. Mathivanan,

Ahmed, Kevin (two), Anantha Raj (two) and Ram Kumar did the scoring for United, while Kavi reduced the margin.
