Patna: Jayaprakash Narayan, the legendary socialist leader, was fondly remembered on his 106th birth anniversary with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar leading the State in paying homage to him. Mr. Kumar visited the leader’s residence at Mahila Charkha Samiti in Kadamkuan where he paid floral tributes to him. “JP was the hero, who led the movement against the Emergency and restored democracy in the country. The rights of the citizen, so brazenly trampled, could be restored only because of the dynamic leadership of JP,” Mr. Kumar said reminiscing his association with the great leader. “Jayaprakash Narayan inspired an entire generation to rise up and fight against the atrocities by the high and mighty during the Emergency and will continue to inspire the future generations,” he said. Iconic leaderMr. Kumar said it was due to the towering personality of the iconic leader that instead of Delhi, Patna had become the hub of political activity during the Emergency that ultimately led to the fall of Indira Gandhi regime and installation of the first-ever non-Congress dispensation in Delhi. However, regretting that JP’s dream of “total revolution” remained to be fulfilled, Mr. Kumar pledged to work wholeheartedly towards realising it. “This will be the greatest tribute to the leader who dedicated his entire life to the service of the poor and those living on the margins of the society,” he said. -- PTI
