Boy falls from lorry, dies

HYDERABAD: The procession of goddess Durga idol, held in connection with Dasara festival, turned tragic with the death of a tenth-standard student at Charminar on Friday night.

Police said Sandeep Kumar (15), a resident of Gowlipura, was standing on a lorry along with his friends when he accidentally slipped and came under its wheels, resulting in grievous head injuries. His friends shifted him to the Osmania General Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

The incident occurred when revellers were on the way to the Tank Bund for the immersion of the idol marking the end of Navaratri. Police later arrested lorry driver R. Bhakiya Raj (20), a native of Tamil Nadu.
