BANGALORE: The Bangalore police on Saturday arrested Govardhan Murthy, land developer and film producer who was accused of murdering actor and realtor Vinod Kumar. Murthy, who is said to be well connected with politicians here as well as in Andhra Pradesh, was arrested at Kochi, Kerala. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East) Basavaraj Malagatti, Murthy surfaced in Kochi after fleeing to Trichy after Tuesday’s shooting, which took place during a party at his farmhouse at Bagalur in Bangalore. He was arrested by two police officers who went to Kochi following a tip-off. “He is expected to be brought here by road on Sunday morning and produced before the local magistrate,” Mr. Malagatti said. Status reportThe arrest comes a day after Vinod Kumar’s brother Kiran Kumar, his family members and friends, met Director-General and Inspector-General of Police R. Srikumar on Friday. The latter had asked Police Commissioner Shankar M. Bidari to submit a status report on the incident in two days. Murthy, producer of the latest Shivarajkumar movie Madesha, allegedly shot Vinod Kumar (28) with his 7.7 mm pistol twice, killing him on the spot. The victim had a role in the film. The Bagalur police have registered a case of murder against Murthy who also faces charges under the Arms Act.
