Thiruvananthapuram
Thiruvananthapuram: Four occupants of a car sustained injuries when the vehicle rammed the Nagercoil-Thiruvananthapuram passenger train at an unmanned level-crossing near Balaramapuram Railway Station on Saturday. The injured were admitted to a private hospital near Neyyattinkara. The injured are Pradeep, who was driving the vehicle, P. Sasidharan, Mohanakumar and S. Sudhakaran. Pradeep, a resident of Ramapuram and the owner of the Maruti Zen, sustained serious head injuries. Railway sources said the incident occurred around 12.53 noon near the railway station when the train was coming to the capital. The car, which was coming down a slope and a sharp curve to cross the railway tracks, rammed the train. The car was dragged for some distance by the train before it came to a halt. Sources said boards had been erected on both sides of the level-crossing to warn road-users. The police have registered a case. Rail services on the single lane Nagercoil-Thiruvananthapuram section was affected for 30 minutes after the accident.
