Consortium planned at district veterinary hospital

Aim is to market meat and other products in the Malabar region



With new plans: Food and Animal Husbandry Minister C. Divakaran visiting the District Veterinary Hospital in Kozhikode city on Saturday.

KOZHIKODE: Animal Husbandry Minister C.Divakaran on Saturday said that a consortium of agencies under the Animal Husbandry Department would be formed at the district veterinary hospital here.

The Kerala State Poultry Development Corporation; Meat Products of India; Kerala State Livestock Development Board; and Milma would be brought under the proposed consortium.

Marketing centre

It would be a marketing centre for meat and other food products in the entire Malabar area. The centre would be set up on the compound of the district veterinary hospital after demolishing the unused and old buildings.

This was announced by the Minister when he visited the hospital on Saturday.

Sales depot

Mr. Divakaran said that funds from the district panchayat and the MP and MLA funds would be utilised for setting up the centre. A sales depot of Meat Products of India would be started here.

It would serve as a centre for Milma in Malabar with all products of the milk cooperative offered for sale here. Products of the Kerala State Poultry Development Corporation, including duck, quail and turkey meat, would be available here.

Information centre

An information centre of the Kerala State Livestock Development Board would also be set up here.

T.V. Balan, district panchayat standing committee chairman; K.Chandran, member, district panchayat; and R.Vijayakumar, director, Animal Husbandry Department, were among those who accompanied the Minister.
