Star artistes to enliven Mangalore music fest

It will be held from October 15 to 19

MANGALORE: Carnatic violinists, the Akkarai sisters of Chennai, young Hindustani vocalist Mahalakshmi Shenoy of Karkala and sitar player Rafique Khan of Mangalore will perform at the Bharatha Mani National Youth Music and Dance Festival here from October 15 to 19.

At a press conference here on Friday, P. Nityanand Rao of the Mani Krishnaswamy Academy and K. Chandrashekhar Shetty of Bharatha Nritya Sabha said the programme would also feature vocalists N. Shashikiran and Ganesh of Chennai (known as Carnatica Brothers) and Bharatanatya exponents S. Vasudevan of Delhi, Medha Dikshith and Keerthi Kumar of Bangalore and Jyotsna of Mangalore.

The programmes will begin at 6 p.m. daily except on the last day when it will start at 5 p.m. Entry is free.

Inauguration

The festival will be inaugurated by saxophone maestro Kadri Gopalanath. The first concert will be presented by the Akkarai sisters (Subhalakshmi and Swarnalatha) on October 15 at 6 p.m., followed by a Bharatanatya performance by Vasudevan.

The next day, Rafique Khan (sitar) will perform at 6 p.m. followed by a Bharatanatya performance by the Medha-Kumar duo. On October 17, Mahalakshmi Shenoy will present a vocal concert and Satyanarayana Raju of Bangalore will showcase his Bharanatya skills (7.30 p.m.).

Prarthana Sai Narasimhan of Chennai will present a vocal rendition on Saturday followed by a Bharatanatya performance by Jyotsna.

On the last day, the Carnatica Brothers will present a concert at 5 p.m. followed by a stage programme at 6.30 p.m. in which the Bharatha Mani National Youth Award will be presented to K.U. Jayachandra Rao of Bangalore and Vani Rajgopal of Mangalore.

Final programme

The final programme will be a Bharatanatya performance by Karuna Sagari of Chennai at 7.30 p.m.
