‘October Revolution’ at film festival

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: The Cochin Film Society is presenting a real feast of films this month. Starting with Love in the Time of Cholera on October 15.

This is the first filming of the famous novel by Garcia Marquez by a Hollywood studio and not a Latin American or Italian production. The film trivia has it that producer Scott Steindorff had to spent three years to coax Marquez to give the rights to the work.

Directed by Mike Newell, the film is about the love triangle between Fermina Daza and her two suitors. The story unfolds during 50 years between 1880 and 1930. The film will be screened at Gallery OED, opposite Lotus Club.

From October 21 to 25, the society will organise October Revolution Movie Fest, in association with the Kerala Lalitkala Akademi. The festival will start with Mother, the masterpiece by Vsevolod Pudovkin made in 1926 based on the famous novel by Maxim Gorky.

The next days will have Sergei Eisenstein’s Que Viva Mexico!, Andrei Tarkovsky’s Andrey Rublyov, Aleksandr Dovzhenko’s Earth and Sergei Eisenstein’s October. These films will be screened at Durbar Hall Art Gallery at 6 p.m. on all days.
