Seized: Commercial Street police in Bangalore on Friday showing the media fake driving licences and rubber stamps, learner’s licence forms and passport-size photographs of 70 people that they recovered.

BANGALORE: The Commercial Street police arrested five persons, including a sales executive of a private finance firm, for allegedly faking driving licences.

The scam came to light when the police were verifying the residential address of Mohammed Shadab Ansari (23), a resident of Meerut, given in his passport application. Ansari had given a local address and had submitted a copy of the driving licence as proof of address.

Fake

Having found Ansari’s driving licence to be fake, the police investigated and found that he had obtained it from Yasim Baig (28), a sales executive in ING Vysya Financial Services, who in turn had paid Mohammed Nayaz (24) and Fayaz Pasha (33), who work as touts in Regional Transport Offices in Rajajinagar and Yeshwantpur.

Forms

The police found that Fayaz Pasha had issued fake driving licences to many people, charging about Rs. 1,400. He was using fake government seals allegedly made by S. Babu (37) of Kumaraswamy Layout and got the fake driving licence forms printed at a private printing unit in Rajajinagar.

The police arrested Ansari, Baig, Nayaz, Pasha and Babu and recovered 21 rubber stamp seals, driving licence and learners’ licence forms, and passport size photographs of 70 persons. The police are on the lookout for Pasha’s brother Khaleel.
