BANGALORE: A 55-year-old woman, who was alone in an old house in Basavanagudi, was strangled on Friday. Her gold chain, earrings and a gold ring are missing. Annapurneshwari and her husband Laxmikanth, a silk merchant, were staying in their ancestral home on H.V. Samaja Road. The couple and their two adopted children lived on the ground floor while their relatives stayed on the first floor. On Friday, Laxmikanth left home around 10.30 a.m. to watch the India-Australia cricket match and the two children went to college. Around noon, a mechanic, who had repaired Laxmikanth’s scooter, came to the house and collected his payment from Annapurneshwari. But around 1.30 p.m. when the domestic help came for work, she found the door open and Annapurneshwari’s body in the hall. “We found marks of strangulation caused by the wire of mobile charger. There are also injuries on her arms indicating she had resisted the attack,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) M.R. Pujar. Deaths this yearSo far this year, five women who were alone at home have been murdered in the city.
