Diagnostic services at your doorstep

‘MedPlus Pathlab’ launched

Medplus establishes smaller labs at different locations

Over 600 tests will be conducted in ‘MedPlus Pathlabs’

HYDERABAD: MedPlus, a chain of retail medical stores, has launched ‘MedPlus Pathlab’ to offer diagnostic services to people at their doorstep. It has established smaller clinical labs at different locations, mostly in the pharmacies, and a major clinical reference laboratory (CRL) at Bowenpally.

“Usually, there will be a lot of variations in the laboratory reports, as most small labs work on semi-automatic or manual systems which are prone to greater error margins. We have put automatic equipment in place to minimise errors,” said Madhukar Gangadi, CEO of MedPlus group, in an interview here on Friday.

There were 34 collection centres in the city. While people could walk in to the MedPlus outlets for giving samples, they could alternatively contact the call centre (18004253100 or 040-66743000) so that an authorised person would go and collect the samples.

Outlets

There were 200 outlets across the State -- 120 of them were located in the city and the rest were in tier-II cities. Another 375 outlets were located across India in cities like Bangalore, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Nagpur, Kolkata, Jaipur and Pune.

Chief operating officer (COO) Surendra Mantena said that the test reports would be delivered the same day in Hyderabad, except for a few complicated tests for which the samples would have to be sent to the CRL.

Over 600 tests would be conducted in the MedPlus Pathlabs and 50 people would be engaged to collect the samples, touching 2.50 lakh patients annually. The market for pathological tests was Rs. 500 crore in India and was growing at 25 per cent every year, said Dr. Surendra.

Dr. Madhukar said that the company wanted to set up 1,000 stores by March 2009 across the country.
