Body of devotee fished out of Yamuna

NEW DELHI: The body of one of the nine devotees feared drowned during immersion of a Durga idol on the Yamuna banks at Burari here was fished out on Friday.

“The body of Jitender was fished out in the afternoon after a six-hour-long operation. The body was found 3 km downstream from where the mishap took place. We are hopeful of recovering the remaining bodies in the next 24 hours,” said a senior police officer.

Tragedy struck around noon on Thursday when some of the 200-odd devotees of the Anand Parbat Durga Puja Samiti were immersing an idol at Khajoori Pushta on the Yamuna bank.
