Kandhamal limps back to normality

Special Correspondent

BHUBANESWAR: Strife-torn Kandhamal appeared to be limping back to normality with no violence reported from any part of the district on Friday.

Several Opposition parties held a peace rally at Phulbani, district headquarters town of Kandhamal, and appealed to the people to shun violence and maintain peace.

The peace rally, which started here in the morning, reached Phulbani in the afternoon.

Communist Party of India (Marxist), Communist Party of India, Forward Bloc, Nationalist Congress Party and Samruddha Odisha took part in the rally.

A six-member delegation from the Progressive Writers and Artistes Forum, Kerala, also participated.

15 injured

Although Kandhamal remained peaceful, about 15 persons belonging to both the Hindu and Christian communities were injured in a clash that took place during Durga Puja celebrations in Padia area of Malkangiri district in the morning.
