Staff Reporter

BERHAMPUR: Fifteen persons were injured in a violent group clash that occurred at Padia in Malkangiri district of south Orissa on Thursday night.

Altercation between two groups of tribals during a board game, ‘Gudgudi pali’, had led to the clash.

Speaking to The Hindu, Malkangiri district Superintendent of Police Satish Gajbhiye said personnel of the Special Operation Group (SOG) along with a platoon of Orissa State Armed Police (OSAP) had been rushed to the village to pacify the situation. According to sources armed police commandos conducted a flag march at Padia. Mr Gajbhiye said the situation was now under control.

Two of the injured were shifted to the district headquarters hospital at Malkangiri as their condition was serious. The rest were being treated at the Padia Community Health Centre (CHC).

Traditional arms were used during the clash. Police were yet to arrest anyone in relation to the clash.
