Appa Rao for national camp

HYDERABAD: Chinna Appa Rao of Sports Authority of India (STC, Secunderabad) has been selected for the on-going national hockey preparatory camp in Bhopal for the next year’s Junior World Cup hockey tournament to be held in Singapore in June, 2009, according to P. Madhukaran, SAI coach.

The 19-year-old left-half happens to be the only one from Hyderabad to be get the call for the camp, according to the coach.

Inter-district wrestling

The Andhra Pradesh Amateur Wrestling Association will organise State inter-district championship for seniors (men and women) at Railway Institute, Vijayawada, from October 31 to November 1, according to A. Narsing Rao, general secretary of APAWA.

Teertha for Asian tennis

Teertha Iska of Andhra Pradesh has been given a direct entry into the girls’ under-14 category of the second Asian tennis championship for boys’ and girls’ (under-14) from October 13 to 18, according to a press release here.

Entries have been received from Bangladesh, UAE, U.S. and host country India.

Some of the names in the fray are N. Digvijay, Vishal Passi, A. Abhishek, Shaikh Abdullah, Nishchay Rawal in the boyss’ section and Teertha Iska, Amrita Mukherjee, Bhavika Wadhawan, H. Shweta Shree and C. Sai Samhitha in the girls’.

There will be 18 direct entries, 10 wild cards and four qualifiers.

Rajagopal elected to IOA

Lagadapati Rajagopal, MP and President of the Andhra Pradesh Olympic Association has been elected as Associate Vice-President of the Indian Olympic Association at the general body meeting of the IOA held at Pune on Friday according to reports reaching here.
