Chief Minister to double grant for dining hall Rs. 1 crore allocated to celebrate Kanakadasa Jayanthi Udupi: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa said on Friday that National Integration Councils (NICs) should be formed at the State, district and taluk levels in the country. He was inaugurating the “Anna Yajna” Dining Hall Complex of Sri Krishna Math/Temple, here. Mr. Yeddyurappa said such councils would help people of all religions and communities to live in harmony. It would help in facilitating unity and integrity of the country. He would discuss this issue with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The National Integration Council meeting was being held after a gap of three years in Delhi. It should be held annually, he said. He said the BJP Government wanted people of all faiths to live in harmony. He had given directions to the police to deal sternly with any organisation which wanted to destroy harmony. During the recent attacks in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts (against the Christians), the State Government had brought the situation under control in 24 hours. “But these attacks are discussed in the United States. However no one discusses the pathetic situation in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said. Mr. Yeddyurappa said despite criticism, the State Government was committed to supporting the welfare activities of various maths and temples. These maths and temples were rendering services which the Government should have been rendering. The Government would increase the grant to the new dining hall complex of Sri Krishna Math/Temple from Rs. 25 lakh to Rs. 50 lakh. The Government had decided to celebrate the Kanakadasa Jayanti in a big way in Bangalore, Udupi and Bada on November 15. It had sanctioned Rs. 1 crore for the Kanakadasa Adhyayana Kendra to be inaugurated in Udupi on October 11. The Government was committed to the development of roads in the State. It had allotted Rs. 22 crore for the development of roads in Udupi city.
