‘Rakshana vedike will not allow recruitment in SWR’

Staff Correspondent

Traditional beginning: T.A. Narayana Gowda, president of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, inaugurating a convention of the vedike in Dharwad on Friday.

DHARWAD: President of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike T.A. Narayana Gowda said on Friday that the vedike would not allow the process to recruit Group D employees in South Western Railway, which was stopped following protests by Kannada organisations.

Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Narayana Gowda said that there was no change in the stand taken by the organisation that Kannadigas should get priority in the recruitment.

Recently, General Manager of South Western Railway Praveen Kumar said that the recruitment process would resume in Mysore and Hubli and the vedike would not allow it if it meant injustice to Kannadigas.

Mr. Gowda said the vedike would urge the railway authorities to begin the process afresh by giving more publicity. The vedike had met Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on the issue and would meet him again on Monday to seek justice to Kannadigas in the railway recruitment.

The vedike would organise an agitation in Bangalore on Monday. It would urge all political parties to press for a Bill in Parliament to reserve Group D posts in the Railways to local candidates in all States. Such a Bill would ensure justice to local candidates, he said.

The vedike would support a proposal to conduct the recruitment process simultaneously in all States.
