Demand to remove ‘anomalies’ in pay scale of DU Principals

Staff Reporter

Association writes to UGC chairman to address their concerns

NEW DELHI: Taking note of the recommendations of the G. K. Chadha Pay Review Committee, the Delhi University Principals’ Association has written to University Grants Commission chairman S. K. Thorat requesting him to address their concerns.

“We had asked for a Senior Principal’s scale for all those Principals who have already completed eight years of service. The committee has recommended Senior Professorship at universities, but has remained silent on the issue of the post of Senior Principal. We make a request to incorporate that post,” said Association president S.K. Garg in a statement.

The Association has also demanded that the revision of a Principal’s pay be based on the existing pay scale as per the Fifth Pay Commission rather than on new criteria of under-graduate and post-graduate colleges.

On the issue of creating an additional post of Professor in colleges offering post-graduate teaching, Dr. Garg asked: “What happens to Delhi University colleges where entire post-graduate teaching takes place in the University’s departments?”

The Academics for Action and Development (AAD) has demanded that before the UGC finalises its recommendations to the document, Prof. Thorat must hold discussions with the representatives of the Federation of Central Universities Teachers’ Associations on the “anomalies” in the report. “Otherwise the UGC would be responsible for unrest on campuses throughout the country on this issue,” said AAD chairman S. S. Rathi.
