SRM begins well

CHENNAI: The top two seeds, Southern Railway and Indian Bank, could not muster maximum points in the opening round of the Tamil Nadu State team championship which commenced at the Nehru Stadium here on Thursday. Railway won 3-1, while Indian Bank beat Shakthi Chess Academy 3.5-0.5.

The third-seeded SRM University, however, made a 4-0 sweep against Mount Chess Academy and was aided by two walk-over wins.

Five teams, including SRM, Bloom Chess Academy, Jawahar Vidyalaya, Kanyakumari ‘A’ and former champion Chennai, are leading with four points.

The tournament is being sponsored by Ramco.
