Double for Madras

CHENNAI: University of Madras retained the men’s and women’s titles in the South Zone inter-University table tennis tournament, which was organised by Kuvempu University (Shimoga).

In the final, University of Madras men defeated VTU (Belgaum) 3-1, while the women beat Anna University 3-2. Both teams have qualified to play the all-India inter-zone tournament to be hosted by BIT Mesra (Jharkand).

Other results: Men: Semifinals: Madras bt Bangalore 3-0; Quarterfinals: Madras bt Anna 3-1.

Women: Semifinals: Madras bt Pondicherry 3-0; Quarterfinal: Madras bt M.S. University 3-0.

P.S. Senior Secondary School and Chettinad Vidyashram moved into the semifinals in both the boys’ and girls’ under-16 categories of the CBSE Cluster V table tennis tournament organised by the Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan SSS here.
