Rs. 100-cr. plan approved for improving roads

Special grant sanctioned to Bellary City Corporation


BELLARY: The general body meeting of the Bellary City Corporation Council on Tuesday approved the Rs. 100-crore action plan for improving roads in the city.

The action plan was prepared after the corporation decided to utilise the Rs. 100-crore special grant sanctioned by the Government to repair and improve main roads in Bellary city. Roads in the city have been damaged owing to movement of heavy vehicles, especially those transporting iron ore.

According to instructions of Minister for Tourism G. Janardhan Reddy, who is also the district in-charge Minister, and Health Minister B. Sriramulu, stress has been laid on developing the existing roads to the standards of national highways, in consultation with experts.

The plan proposes works including road widening, construction of side drains, pavements and road dividers, erecting streetlights and providing ducts for laying cables.

Following is the list of roads in the city which are proposed to be developed. Figures in bracket indicate the estimated cost. Durgamma temple to SP Circle (Rs. 5.11 crore); SP Circle to OPD Cross (Rs. 13.51 crore); Mothi Circle to APMC Circle (Tank Bund Road) (Rs. 13.68 crore); Durgamma temple to KEB head office (Rs. 6.98 crore); Indira Circle to Satyanarayan Pet railway level crossing (Rs. 4.87 crore); SP Circle to Avambhavi canal (on Sirguppa Road) (Rs. 6.29 crore); SP Circle to Ambedkar Circle (Rs. 6.73 crore); Cowl Bazar first railway level crossing to T.B. Sanatorium (Rs 5.32 crore); Vetarinary Hospital to biscuit factory (Kalamma street and Goldsmith street) (Rs. 5.61 crore); Mothi Circle to Kanekal bus stand (Car street) (Rs. 4.88 crore); Old Municipal office to Krishnamachari street (Rs. 3.27 crore); Balaji Rao Road (Rs. 1.4 crore); from road underbridge to APMC Road (Rs. 8.67 crore); Car street to NH 63 (Deputy Commissioner’s office) (Rs. 1 crore); Tank Bund Road to Sudha Circle (Rangamandir Road and Radio Park Road) (Rs. 9.87 crore) and Cumming Road from Goldsmith street to Car street (Rs. 2.74 crore).
