Jaffer cracks century

KOCHI: Jaffer Jamal scored an unbeaten century as Central Zone won the Kerala State under-19 inter-zone cricket championship, which concluded here on Wednesday.

Central gained the first innings lead against Combined Districts XI in its last league game at the BPCL Kochi Refinery Ground, Ambalamugal.

In the other two-dayer at St. Paul’s College, North picked three points for its first-innings lead against South. However, South’s Ali Asgar (91 and 51) and Philip (5-79) walked away with individual honours.

The scores: South Zone 194 in 58 overs (Ali Asgar 91) & 196 for eight in 58 overs (Ali Asgar 51, Likhin 44, Favas three for 18) v North 224 in 47 overs (Favas 73, Kabeer 53, Philip five for 79, Sandeep three for 39).

Central Zone 239 for nine in 70 overs (Jaffer Jamal 55, M.S. Akhil 55, Sree Sankar 46, Saddam A. Das four for 71, Deepan Raj three for 67) & 236 for eight in 62 overs (Jaffer Jamal 106 n.o., M.S.Akhil 34, K. Arun three for 31) v Combined Districts XI 104 in 35.5 overs (Balagopal three for 29).
