Scribe passes away

NEW DELHI: Senior journalist Umesh Lakhanpal, Chief Reporter of Punjab Kesri in Delhi, died after a severe heart attack on Wednesday. He was 49.

Mr. Lakhanpal had gone out to meet the Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Jagdish Mukhi, when he suffered the attack. He was immediately taken to Sushrut Trauma Centre where he was declared dead.

A very popular journalist among the professional fraternity and politicians as well as officials, Mr. Lakhanpal was known for his sense of humour and a strong understanding and grasp of Delhi politics. He is survived by his wife Asha and daughter Aditi.

The mortal remains were consigned to flames at the Shalimar Bagh cremation ground on Thursday morning in the presence of a large number of friends and relatives.
