Rs.5 crore for building classrooms

THANJAVUR: The Centre has allocated about Rs. 5 crore for construction of 119 additional classrooms in the panchayat union middle schools under the Sarva Siksha Abhyan scheme in the district this year, said M.S. Shanmugam, Collector, here on Tuesday.

Addressing the district planning committee meeting organised by the district panchayat, he said that 25 primary schools had been upgraded as middle schools this year and construction of 31 additional classrooms for these schools was nearing completion.

He instructed the public works department to strengthen the bunds of rivers and major irrigation channels before the onset of northeast monsoon.
