Joga Singh, a visionary

Staff Correspondent

BIDAR: During October-November, Sikh pilgrims from within and outside the country visit Bidar city on the occasion of the tricentenary celebrations of the Guru Granth Saheb.

They come here to have the darshan of the Gurudwara in Bidar. Bidar is one of the holy places for members of the Sikh community.

The community members started their social and educational activities here under the leadership of Joga Singh, founder-president of Gurudwara Sri Nanak Jhira Saheb.

Though he was keen on improving the image of the gurudwara, Joga Singh gave importance to educating the public in general and Sikh community members in particular.

In recognition of his services to the education sector, Joga Singh was conferred upon the “Siromani” title by the then Vice-President Shankar Dayal Sharma in 1987, manager of the gurudwara Sri Nanak Jhira Saheb, Bidar, Darbara Singh, said.

Mr. Darbara Singh said that Joga Singh was assassinated at his residence in Hyderabad on March 30, 1989.
