BANGALORE: The Fraser Town police, who solved a robbery case, were surprised to discover that it was the victim’s son-in-law who gave the supari. The son-in-law as well as his son were also injured in the attack. Apart from nabbing Selvam, the accused, the police arrested his three associates on charge of assaulting Meera, the victim, and recovered Rs. 3.75-lakh worth gold and silver ornaments from them. On September 29, a gang of four barged into Ms. Meera’s house in Jeevanahalli near Fraser Town, and attacked the family, injuring Ms. Meera, Selvam and his child. All the tree were tied to furniture by the gang. The Fraser Town police cracked the case on October 5. “We were shocked when we arrested the accused as the kingpin Selvam is victim’s son-in-law. The other three accused are Selvam’s associates Periyaswamy, Kumaresh and Santhosh. Selvam hatched the plot, which was carried out by the other three,” he said. A police official told The Hindu: “Selvam was addicted to all sorts of vices and had borrowed huge amounts of money. Unable to bear harassment by moneylenders, he gave the supari to his three friends to rob Meera. On the pretext of repairing the DVD player, Periyaswamy, Kumaresh and Santhosh went to Ms. Meera’s house and attacked her, Selvam and his son in her house. They threatened Meera with a toy pistol and robbed her of her ornaments, Rs. 15,000 in cash and two mobile phones.” Killed in accidentA security guard travelling on the footboard of a moving BMTC bus died when he slipped and fell off the vehicle on H. Siddaiah Road near Shanthi Nagar. The victim, H.R. Raju (45), a resident of Bommasandra, was going home around 10.45 p.m. when the Pushpak bus took a turn. Mr. Raju lost his balance, fell and came under the rear wheels. He was shifted to Victoria Hospital where he died around 1.30 a.m., the police said. Fake currencyThe Banasavadi police arrested seven men and recovered counterfeit currency notes that had a face value of Rs. 3.70 lakh. The accused are Venkatesh (36), a resident of Priyadarshini School Road near Subbayyana Palya; Venkataramana (32), of Kanakadasa Layout near Lingarajapuram; P. Subrahmani Chengalarayappa (32), a native of Kadapanatham in Andhra Pradesh; Mustafa Kamalpasha Abdul Saleem (52) of Gandhi Nagar Shampur in the city; Ranganathan (43) of Manihalli village in Dharmapuri district and Chandrashekar Ramaiah (27), a resident of Jenuru village in Krishnagiri district are the accused. ArrestedThe Attibele police arrested two men and seized Rs. 5.61 lakh worth copper cables and other materials from them. The accused are Asif alias Toufik Dastagir Saab (23), a native of Kudlai in Belgaum and Ramu (25), a resident of Madakasira in Ananthpur district of Andhra Pradesh. According to the police, Asif was working as a delivery in-charge with a transport company near Makali on Nelamangala Road.
