Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Speaker Somnath Chatterjee has disqualified H. T. Sangliana (BJP) and Ramswaroop Prasad (Janata Dal-United) from the Lok Sabha for violating their party whips during the July 22 trust vote. They have been disqualified under Schedule X of the Constitution.

Earlier, Samajwadi Party members Jai Prakash and S. P. Singh Baghel were disqualified under the Tenth Schedule for refusing to vote in favour of the government as per their party diktat.

Mr. Sangliana was elected from Bangalore North. Mr. Prasad represented Nalanda in Bihar. Both of them voted in favour of the government.

In all, disqualification proceedings have been initiated against 26 members.

All members facing disqualification charges are given a chance by the Speaker to present their case.
