Madikeri: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa will attend the Madikeri Dasara celebrations here on Thursday, a press release said here on Tuesday. Kodagu Deputy Commissioner K.R. Niranjan has asked the Government officials to be present in Madikeri during Mr. Yeddyurappa’s visit. Marking the finale of the Dasara festivities, procession of Dasha Mantapa would be taken out on Thursday evening. Madikeri city is illuminated. Hundreds have enjoyed the feast of cultural programmes at the Cauvery Kalakshetra from October 1. From Tuesday, the programmes will be held at the Ranga Mandira at the Gandhi Maidan. Heavy rains lashed Madikeri in the wee hours of Tuesday dampening the festive mood. Ayudha Puja would be held at the Ranga Mandira on Wednesday evening. Vikram Jadugar, magician from Kodagu, would present the magic show from 6 p.m. on October 9 to 6 p.m. on Friday. ProcessionThe working president of the Dasara Committee, M.B. Devaiah and the president of the Madikeri City Municipal Council, P.D. Ponnappa, said in a press conference here on Tuesday that a sum of Rs. 60,000 had been granted to each of the ten mantaps that would be taken in a grand procession on Thursday evening. Additional sum of Rs. 40,000 each would be made over to them once the last instalment of Rs. 10 lakh was received from the Government. The State Government has already given a grant of Rs. 20 lakh to Madikeri Dasara Committee. A sum of Rs. 10 lakh was given by the Government to celebrate Gonicoppa Dasara in Virajpet taluk. The Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) officials have stated that efforts would be made to provide uninterrupted power supply to the city and Gonicoppa in view of the celebrations Ban on sale of liquor would come into force from Wednesday midnight to 10 a.m. on Thursday within 10 km radius of Madikeri and Gonicoppa town. No vehicle would be allowed to enter the city, except a few pass holders, after 4 p.m. on Thursday.
