Sharma’s family rejects Amar Singh’s offer

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Upset over Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh’s recent remarks raising doubts over the genuineness of the encounter in which Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma was killed at Batla House here this past month, the Delhi Police officer’s family has refused to accept a cheque for Rs.10 lakh he had offered. The police officer’s father, Narottam Sharma, said the family was shocked over Mr. Amar Singh’s statement. Mr. Singh had said that Inspector Sharma was shifted out of the Delhi Police Special Cell days before the encounter.

Mr. Sharma said the Samajwadi Party leader was playing vote-bank politics by issuing such statements. “Has he got any proof? He is giving statements merely for votes,” said Mr. Sharma, adding that his son had not been transferred.
