Engineering college plans to be a deemed university

SIVAKASI: After twenty-five years of academic excellence, the Mepco Schlenk Engineering College is now planning to become a deemed university. The college has chalked out a year-long silver jubilee celebration, including two international workshops, according to its principal, S. Balakrishnan.

The college that began its journey with 1984 with just three branches in under-graduation is now offering UG and postgraduate courses in eight branches. It also offered doctorate programme in three branches.

Stating that all the seats in the college were getting filled within the first few days through single window system, he attributed its success to academic excellence and higher placement offers for its students.

“We are ranked first among the colleges affiliated to Anna University for overall pass percentage. Eighty eight per cent of our students got placed in various places,” Dr. Balakrishnan said.

Stating that qualified faculty, good infrastructure and continuous motivation of the students contributed to the academic excellence, he said the college did not lag behind in honing the talents of the students in sports, fine arts, projects and soft skills. Besides, providing all the necessary infrastructure the college management never interfered with the functioning of the institution, he said.
