Staff Reporter
THENI: A special legal aid cell would also be set up in all police stations to assist petitioners and complainants, according to Deputy Inspector General of Police Amaresh Pujari.
One constable will be deputed to assist them. If no action was taken on the petitions given by complainants, they might contact the SP or DIG for redressal, he added.
A special vigilance committee comprising police and public would also set up to scale down criminal activities and create an awareness among people.
Later, the DIG handed over 205 sovereigns of gold jewels worth Rs.18.45 lakh recovered by the police to the owners.
These jewels were stolen between 2006 and 08. The theft cases were detected and 16 accused arrested.
