DINDIGUL: The district administration is ready to release final electoral roll meant for the forthcoming parliamentary polls on October 15, as it finished inclusion and deletion of names and made necessary corrections and modifications in names and address of voters in the draft electoral roll. The district election office had received 1,33,490 applications, almost 11 per cent of 11.89 lakh voters in the draft electoral roll that was released in August, for inclusion of names in the roll. After meticulous scrutiny and verification in all seven Assembly segments of the Dindigul parliament constituency, 83 per cent of applications received by the election office were found eligible and included in the roll and seventeen per cent was rejected for various reasons. A sizable number of applications was rejected, owing to below the eligible age of applicants. Those applicants did not have the required age limit as per the guidelines issued by the State Election Commission and qualified date fixed by it for calculating the age to consider them as eligible voters, according to Collector R. Vasuki. “We actually did not out rightly reject their applications. Their applications were kept safely. Those applications would be included automatically the day they got eligibility.” Those applicants need not give another application to include their names in the voter list at the time of eligibility. These applications would be considered then for inclusion, she added. After a door-to-door verification, officials engaged themselves in re-checking of all names of voters at booth levels to prevent duplication, if any. Meanwhile, thorough checking was also done to ensure that the names of all VIPs, including leaders of all political parties, were included in the roll. The State Election Office has plans to release the electoral roll on October 15. After delimitation of constituencies in the district, draft electoral roll had been released for all the seven Assembly segments in July keeping January 1, 2008 as qualifying date. Total voters as per draft electoral roll in the district were 11,89,581, including 5,94,432 men and 5,95,149 women.
