Nine killed in accident near Vellakoil

VELLAKOIL: Nine persons, including two children, were killed and 15 injured in a road accident near here on Sunday night.
According to the Vellakoil police, the incident occurred when the driver of a cement-laden lorry hit a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus, going from Tirupur to Pudukottai, at Sankaran Pallam around midnight.
In the impact of the collision, six of the nine persons died on the spot. Three died in the hospital. The police said the lorry driver had fallen asleep.
The 15 injured, including the bus driver and conductor, were first taken to the Government Hospital at Kangayam, and later referred to Government hospitals at Erode, Tirupur and Coimbatore.
The impact of the accident was so huge that the lorry’s front tyres were found 20 feet away.
