VISAKHAPATNAM: Former minister and deputy floor leader of Telugu Desam in the Assembly, Kimidi Kalavenkata Rao, on Monday made a strong plea to Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to see that the Nano unit is located in Visakhapatnam district. This would go a long way in industrialisation of north coastal districts, which had remained backward . The area is congenial for shifting of the Nano unit from West Bengal, he said. Speaking to media persons here, he said Vizag has all the facilities for setting up the unit including rail connectivity, . A modern airport with night landing facility is coming up very soon. Besides port facilities, the NH-5 runs through the city. The most important aspect is the availability of cheap labour, he said adding that a workforce of over 1.50 lakh is readily available. Acquisition of land for the unit would pose no problems because adequate Government land is available. He had also recalled the visit of Tata’s representatives to Ranga Reddy and Medak districts and wondered whether the location would be finalised with a view to help the kin of powers that be. He recalled how the IIT was shifted from Basara to Medak.
