Mukarram Jah’s vision lauded

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: Speakers at a function here on Monday appreciated the vision of Nawab Mir Barkat Ali Khan Mukarram Jah Bahadur, grandson of the seventh Nizam, in taking steps for the advancement and propagation of education. The Mukarram Jah Trust for Education and Learning established by him was furthering the cause of education for people living in the old city, they said.

Meritorious students were awarded on the occasion of the 75th birth anniversary of Mukarram Jah, which is celebrated as ‘Founders Day’ by the Trust. A colourful programme was arranged at the sprawling Purani Haveli palace but rain played spoilsport leading to cancellation of the cultural events.

Yakutpura MLA Mumtaz Ahmed Khan said a large number of children in the old city were getting educated, thanks to the school and junior colleges set up by the Trust. Justice Mohammad Sardar Ali Khan, Trustee M.J. Trust, appreciated the gesture of Mukarram Jah in handing over Purani Haveli for the cause of education in the backward areas of the old city.

Mir Kamaluddin Ali Khan, secretary of the Trust, welcomed the gathering. Earlier, gold medals were presented to Shaikh Waseem Wali and Syeda Nazia Fatima and silver trophies to Masroorah and Tahera Begum.
