Fake currency note

I withdrew cash from KVB ATM, Kumbakonam, on September 29 from my current account and deposited the same cash in the ICICI Bank, Kumbakonam, on the same day. However, ICICI bank officials informed me that one Rs. 500 note was a fake one (Serial number is 6AD635584). When I approached KVB, they simply refused to accept my complaint. I request the bank concerned to sort out the issue.

S. Muthamizhan,

Kumbakonam.

Voter verification

I voted during the last municipal and Assembly elections. In the photo voters list, which was released some time back, I found my name missing. Recently when an announcement appeared in the media to get missing names included, I submitted my application to officials in Oxford School, Yagappa Nagar, on August 20.

I was informed that election staff would visit my house for verification. Yet no one came for verification.

Train service

Southern Railway announced operation of seven special trains on the Chennai Egmore-Nagercoil sector, in both directions from September 28 to October 20. It must be praised for its concern for passengers. However people of Thanjavur have to depend on Rockfort Express alone to reach Chennai. Though the government is keen on developing this town, the Southern Railway seems to neglect its citizens. Hence I request the authorities to look into the matter.

Vengarai S. Raman,

Nameboard

The landmark of Thanjavur is Big Temple. But the information board is in Tamil. If it is in English and Hindi, it will be helpful to tourists from other States.

I request the Archaeological Survey of India to do the needful.

Payment of arrears

The Sixth Central Pay Commission’s recommendation to grant additional pension for octogenarians is really a boon. The Government has gracefully accepted the demand. However the government ought to have sanctioned payment of arrears in one instalment to all pensioners. It is hoped that the government would act so swiftly.

G. Vedarajan,

Thanjavur.

Rice supply

I have read about the demand by fish workers for supply of 30 kg of rice. It is the same demand made by landless peasants, unorganised sector workers, among others. In Tamil Nadu, a small family has four members - husband, wife and two children. They need at least one kg rice per day and the minimum requirement for a month is 30 kg.

V. Dharmadoss,

Tiruvarur.

Traffic jam

Free flow of traffic is very much affected on Car Street, Karur, every Friday when hundreds of devotees visit Sri Mariyamman temple. Girl’s Higher Secondary School teachers and students have to cross this temple on these days. Trustee of this temple can provide a parking slot on the ground adjoining Sri Valangiyamman temple near the railway junction.

R.S. Moorthy,

Karur.

Bank strike

The strike by bank employees hit financial market for two days and common man was put to great difficulty. In these days of e-banking, they should understand that a few people with no accountability could not cow down strong populace of India.

After all, customer is the king. We need modernisation of banking operations.

T.M. Renganathan,

Srirangam.

ATM wanted

I wish to bring to notice the non-availability of ATM for Adirampatinam branch of Indian Bank. Adirampattinam Branch of Indian Bank is one of the busiest of branches. Although the bank has issued ATM cards to thousands of customers, it does not have a machine. Transactions are performed manually. Moreover, customers have to wait for many hours to complete a single transaction or enquiry in the branch.

The branch is presently understaffed. These conditions cause inconvenience to the public. I request the Indian Bank authorities to expedite installation of ATM.

A.Haja Abdul Khader,

Adirampattinam.
