Rag-picker rescued

CHENNAI: An 11-year-old boy engaged in rag picking at the garbage dumping yard near Poonamallee was rescued by the Labour Department.

The boy, who used to collect plastic items from the garbage, was found during a drive to identify child labour in the garbage dumping yards in Thiruverkadu, Senneerkuppam and Poonamallee.

The drive by officials of the Labour Department of Tiruvallur District was conducted on the directions of the Labour Minister T.M.Anbarasan, according to a release.
