Jhulan at the helm

Mumbai: Jhulan Goswami has been named captain of the Indian women’s team for the short tour of Australia. She replaces Mithali Raj who has been the captain since the 2005 World Cup.

The team will play five One Day Internationals and a Twenty20 match between October 28 and November 9. Former India captain Anjum Chopra has been recalled for the tour.

“The change in captaincy doesn’t disturb me at all. The day I was made captain, I knew that I would have to pass on the mantle to someone else. I am happy the way I have led the team,” said Mithali.

The team: Jhulan Goswami (captain), Rumeli Dhar (Vice-Captain), Jaya Sharma, Sulakshana Naik, Mithali Raj, Anjum Chopra, M. D. Trishkamini, Amita Sharma, Priyanka Roy, Snehal Pradhan, Gouher Sultana, Anagha Deshpande, Reema Malhotra, Nooshine-al-Khader, Seema Pujare, Purnima Rao (Manager), Sudha Shah (Coach); Stand-byes:Diana David, Swarupa Kadam and Latika Kumari. — Special Correspondent
